fundraising opportunities

We understand that the cost of the trip may be a financial inconvenience. For this reason, Stoked High School has some fundraisers planned to help individuals or students in great need with trip cost, as well as the cost of materials to build the home. We ask that any trip participants be available on these dates to be involved with these fundraisers, especially if you are needing financial assistance.

Tri-Tip Lunch Fundraiser: Sunday, April 13 from 1-3pm in the Chapel

For this fundraiser, trip participants will help with food preparation and serve supporters food and drink.

Cornhole For Casas Tournament: Saturday, May 3 from 10am – 3pm at the church

For this fundraiser, trip participants must be open to helping wherever needed with the tournament.

uReach Global also offers the option to set up your own online fundraising page after your registration has been confirmed. Click here to set that up if you so choose.

faqs

  • A: Baja California is very close to the ocean and the climate will feel similar to being on the coast of California. Temperatures will most likely be in the 70s to low 80s during the day with a breeze and 60s at night. You will need to bring some warmer clothes for the evenings, like a sweatshirt or sweater if you get cold. It may be colder than you are expecting.

  • A: We will be staying at uReach Global’s beautiful base in Baja California. The base is enclosed and well maintained, with an outdoor dining hall, outdoor common areas for free time and boys and girls dorms with comfortable bunk beds, and bathrooms with toilets, sinks and showers. See photos below.

  • A: The uReach Global base is enclosed, secure and incredibly safe. Baja California is a town in Mexico mostly known for farming and agriculture, with very little crime. Any travel outside the base is usually done as an entire group.

If you have any other questions related to safety on this trip, please visit the link below.

  • A: Yes, you can leave the base at any time; however, New Life Community Church and uReach Global require that minors only leave if a New Life leader is present and in a group.

  • A: You can find a comprehensive packing list at the registration link.

  • A: Yes, we will be driving over the border. All participants must have their passport with them in the van as border agents will check all passports. The border can be unpredictable, but last year we had no issues whatsoever and it took us roughly an hour. It can take several hours to cross the border, but this is highly unlikely if all individuals have their passports with them.

  • A: In a typical day the schedule will be as follows: breakfast, morning worship and devotional, working on the build site with a lunch break on site, free time starting between 3 and 4pm, dinner, free time.

  • A: Yes, typically uReach Global tries to plan some group activities after teams are done with their build for the day or for the days after the build has been completed. Last year, we had dinner at a taqueria one day, went to the beach another day, and visited an outdoor flea market another. The packing list includes what you will need for any extra activities planned.

  • A: Yes, most places will take American dollars; however, all of the change they give you will be in Mexican pesos.A: Yes, most places will take American dollars; however, all of the change they give you will be in Mexican pesos.

  • A: We recommend you bring a fair amount of money with you for extra spending. There are a few cafes near the base, oftentimes teams will visit local taquerias or food trucks for lunch breaks, and we will be visiting a flea market where you can purchase more souvenirs. You will also need money for lunch after landing in San Diego and meals or snacks travelling back to Sacramento.

  • A: Yes, there are a few instances where you will need to dress nicer. We may attend a church service and a dinner at a nice restaurant on the final night.

  • A: No, you do not need to know Spanish; however, it does help to know some basic Spanish. The family who will be receiving the home and many other community members in Baja California will most likely not know English very well and it will be very difficult to communicate with them if you do not know any Spanish at all. We will have several with us on the trip who are fluent Spanish speakers who will act as translators for us if needed.
